By exploring synesthesia, I create imagery that expresses the value of individual perception. You'll see work here made from both my own synesthetic experience and inspired by that of others, investigating nontraditional sensorial responses to sound, written language, time, emotions, pain, color, and concepts.
I am also an experienced graphic designer in the print and digital realms - check out my design portfolio here.
You can read articles by Maureen Seaberg on my projects on Psychology Today's Sensorium page, from 2012 and 2018. I am honored and excited to have been an interviewee for her new book, titled Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: The Astonishing New Science of the Senses.
In the fall of 2019, I spent two productive, restful months in the beautiful Lofoten region of northwest Norway, at Kunstnerhuset Lofoten. I completed a sabbatical project involving synesthesia and the Northern Lights, which you can see and read about here. In the fall of 2022, I completed a related collaboration with composer and pianist Svetlana Rudenko, which debuted in Spain at the Artecitta conference!
I've also had the immense pleasure to have been granted three artist residencies in Iceland, at Gullkistan Center for Creativity, Listhús, and Hafnarborg Centre of Culture and Fine Art. I look forward to continuing to explore this special place in the future.
Got a few minutes, and feeling friendly? Take this quick survey! It's free, fairly quick, not hard, not scary. You don't have to be a synesthete to do it. I just ask you what pictures sound like. Thanks!
