CGCC was a completely new idea in how to build a cookbook. We wanted a fresh look for a beginner cookbook that would stand the test of time and become the standard for many new cooks across the country. I designed everything from scratch, including conversion charts, tips and tricks, and step-by-step how-to instructions. I directed all new photography and developed new and beautiful ways to display necessary information without taking away from the simplicity of the design. This book went on to be the flagship cookbook that all other books conformed to at Reiman Publications<\/i>.<\/p>\n

This Old Barn\u00a0<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

This Old Barn brings “barnyard castles” to life with heartwarming anecdotes and nearly 600 photos from all over the country. This coffee table book called for iconic typography and nostalgic imagery. The large format supplied enough canvas to focus the attention on the beauty of old and new barns. Reiman Publications<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The Good Land<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

A heartwarming collection of memories from farm families who recall their way of life over the years. I combined both color and black and white photography to create a timeless impression. Stories from farm families completed the nostalgic feel of the book. Old-fashioned animal clip art was used to divide and identify each chapter. Classic and contemporary fonts were used to connect the old and the new.\u00a0Reiman Publications.<\/i><\/p>\n

Best of Country Chicken & Taste of Home Backyard Grilling\u00a0<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

A series of cookbooks was developed using existing content from Reiman magazine issues. This content was mixed and matched to create all types of cookbooks with specific focuses. New photography was shot in-house for each cover and any new, how-to materials.\u00a0 Existing photos from previous issues were reused inside the book. I art-directed new photography and developed fresh new ways to present existing materials, as you can see in the examples above. These books were sold through Reiman Publications<\/i> and Walmart retailers.<\/p>\n

A Day in Cowboy Country<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

This book offers an honest look at the lives of today’s cowboys and ranchers, featuring their own stories and photos. By combining western-looking fonts and carefully selected stock photography, a modern cowboy picture was painted. I also painted images of each state featured in the book and mixed in iconography of cattle, weather veins, and cowboy hats.\u00a0Reiman Publications.<\/i><\/p>\n

Aashka: The Littlest Sled Dog<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

A series of seven children\u2019s books where sled dogs are the main characters and have life lessons to share. Aashka is the smallest sled dog and the leader of the group. I combined images from an artist and typography in InDesign to generate layouts for all seven books. Many hours were spent scanning and cleaning up illustrations in an effort to make lighting and color consistent throughout. Each cover featured the same dog\u2019s face but with a color change and an artwork change. School-aged kids cut out snowflakes, hearts, and other shapes to use with each different book. This series is being made into a 3D animated movie by Disney Studios. Valley Press<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Following My Flyboy<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

A passion project for a dear friend based on letters written by her mother to her grandparents as she followed her husband around the country. He was undergoing flight training to become a pilot in World War II. The letters were saved, along with pictures, fabric, and other \u201ctreasures\u201d that were carefully crafted into a family heirloom this 100-year-old woman could share with her family.\u00a0I laid out the book, designed the front\/back cover, and sent it to print using Blurb.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Quick Cooking Annual Recipes<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Taste of Home brand Quick Cooking Magazine was a publication of fast, simple recipes with few ingredients. At the end of each year, all the content from the magazine issues was repurposed into a book that could be purchased without a subscription to the magazine. I designed and laid out each book, choosing a different color theme for each one. I art-directed new cover and chapter opener photography.\u00a0Reiman Publications.<\/i><\/p>\n

Taste of Home Daily Planner<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

The Taste of Home Daily Planner<\/em> was designed to be a functional and visually inviting tool for home cooks, offering a space to plan meals, track appointments, and discover new recipes throughout the year. I was responsible for both the layout and visual design of the planner, aiming to make it feel like a natural addition to any kitchen. Each month featured an original illustration I created in watercolor and colored pencil, inspired by the warmth and familiarity of traditional stencil artwork often found in home d\u00e9cor.\u00a0<\/p>\n
