Reach Out Lodi<\/i> is both a food bank and a community center serving those living in the Lodi School District. The Community Center hosts dinners and social events for the elderly, families, and people with special needs. The Community Store provides personal essentials, food, and clothing to those experiencing financial hardship. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This brochure was developed to showcase and promote the services provided by ROL. Rich blue and lime green are ROL\u2019s main colors. The sunrise photo sets the mood for the entire publication. The diagonal colored lines lead the viewer from one page to the next. InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator were used in the design of this brochure. <\/p>\n

\"\"Community Circle Newsletter: Reach Out Lodi<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

Reach Out Lodi<\/i> is both a food bank and a community center serving those living in the Lodi School District. The Community Center hosts dinners and social events for the elderly, families, and people with special needs. The Community Store provides personal essentials, food, and clothing to those experiencing financial hardship. The Community Circle newsletter was developed with the idea of keeping the community connected and letting people know about Reach Out Lodi events. It ranged in page count between 8 and 16 pages in full color. Printed issues were distributed around town, with digital versions (PDF) posted on the website, reachoutlodi.org. <\/p>\n

Poster, Program, and Ticket; Edgewood University<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

For 96 years, Edgewood has held an annual Christmas Concert open to the Community. The Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and Choral Singers all perform festive and Christian music, including a sing-along. Both the ticket and program needed to reflect the importance of the Christmas season, as well as the promotional poster that was already displayed around the campus. <\/p>\n

\"\"Concert Schedule Posters: Edgewood University Music (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025)<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

These Music program posters were created to reflect the semester in which the concerts were held. The fall semester poster includes colorful leaves on top of a violin, while the spring design showcases a saxophone and a Monarch butterfly. Both were displayed at various sizes around the campus and featured the rebranded Music@Edgewood logo. Adobe Photoshop and InDesign were used to create both posters.<\/p>\n

\"\"Poster: InDesign User Group Meeting<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

I am the chapter representative for the Madison Adobe User Group<\/i>. Before it was called the Adobe User Group, it was known as the InDesign User Group. I plan meetings, find presenters (or present myself), and make posters and Facebook posts for meetings. In this example, I started with a totem for InDesign CS6, added symbols for other Adobe software, then came up with a color scheme and fonts to finish the design. The posters would be hung around the school campus and emailed to group members. <\/p>\n

\"\"Logos\/Branding, Sport Icons for Hanging Banners and Merchandise: Pettit National Ice Center<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

I designed a set of icons to represent the different skating programs (speed skating, hockey, and figure skating) offered at the Pettit National Ice Center<\/i>, Wisconsin\u2019s only Olympic Ice Training Center. These icons were originally used on a series of banners around the interior of the ice center, then again on posters, press passes, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other printed media for the Olympic time trial events being held at the center.<\/p>\n

Poster: New <\/span>York Erotic Film Festival<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

It can be challenging to design something tasteful to represent something that is not so tasteful (in my opinion).  It took many sketches to come up with a simple design that still explains what this event is all about. I received a Coveted Ralph Award at the 1992 Creative Summit for this poster I <\/span>designed in college. I have updated the typography and color scheme since that time. I think this is a good example of my creative process and design style. I start with research, make many sketches, and never use my first idea. I keep refining what I have until it feels thoughtful, clever, and, if appropriate, fun.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Trade Show Posters: Deltol Controls<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

Deltrol Controls<\/i> manufactures valves and pumps for ice makers, coffee makers, and floor scrubbing machines. As a freelance graphic designer, I am able to work with different companies on different projects. I may not know the product as well as they do, but I learn and I make it look as attractive as possible. Ziros was a brand-new product that needed a \u201csplashier\u201d look than the other panels in the booth. I designed all of the panels and posters used in Deltrol\u2019s trade shows, in English and in Italian. InDesign and Photoshop were used primarily in the design of these posters. <\/p>\n

\"\"Promotional Poster: Reiman Office Olympics<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

I headed a committee to plan a series of friendly office competitions for employees to participate in on the Reiman campus. I purchased and directed the photo shoot for the \u201coffice gods\u201d above. I developed an \u201cOlympic\u201d logo using office supplies for the rings. I put together the images and text to promote the games in InDesign. It was a huge success and a lot of fun.  <\/p>\n

Trade Show Booth Panels: Northwestern Mutual, Milwaukee<\/span><\/figure>\n

<\/p>\n

As part of a team, I helped fill the Baird Convention Center with themed booths for the company’s annual meeting. I designed over 30 pieces, printed on large-format printers, mounted on Formcore boards, and sealed with a laminator.<\/p>\n

Infographics: AQUA Magazine State of the Industry issue<\/span><\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

In this issue, Aqua collects data through an industry survey and relays the results to its audience through infographics. By looking at the information, I would determine the best format to visualize the data, whether it be a chart, graph, or illustration. In this example, I portrayed a comparison of size both in number and in scale (size) of imagery. The infographic on the far right is an illustration of an umbrella being divided into \u201cpie\u201d wedges, as in a pie chart. On the cover, I designed the State of the Industry logo, placed the photo, and chose the midnight blue masthead to match the swimsuit in the photo. <\/p>\n

From an AQUA magazine<\/i> feature story focused on battling cryptosporidium in pool and spa water. Starting with a vector art superhero, I added the chemical name, draped his cape, selected and altered a grungy font to fit within a shape the hero is standing on.<\/p>\n

Photo Editing and Manipulation: AQUA Magazine<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

In this article about the latest styles of vinyl pool liners, I created a fashion show of sorts. I collected stock photos of people in swimwear. Then, I used Photoshop to \u201capply\u201d the new liner patterns from the manufacturers to the swimwear to create our fashion models. Next, I laid out the article pages, being sure to include a swatch of the vinyl liner design near each fashion model. This project was a good challenge, and I learned a lot. <\/p>\n
